The ranks and ranks of vending machines and (mostly) green pay phones were a part of the scenery mostly gone too.
Who here, on TAG, still has vivid memories of Tokyo in the 90s and even 80s or before?
-Ww
@Wwanderer , it wasn't just Tokyo it was most of Japan... My 1st trip to Japan was in 1991 and I flew into Osaka Itami (Kansai not built yet) I stayed at the Osaka Airport Hotel, where I was just a few inches/cm from touching both walls with my arms stretched out..
bed came to mid calf when I layed down...
and 900JPY coffee there...
It was a good vibe and people were amazingly friendly... but lots has changed since then... Mobile Phone proliferation, Social Media killing socialization, and conservative government propaganda as well as USA becoming less and less liked all over the world because of their questionable actions.... Yes, I'm getting older and no I don't want for the "good ole' days" I just would like things to be a bit more "Normal"
People use Apps to pick up girls now - but many of the apps have fakes, scams, rubbish... Photoshopped, False images, etc... Even people using pics from 20 years ago ? ?
Human to Human connection seems to be more elusive as time goes by... I mean now you can go to brothels in parts of the world and pay to bang a Silicon Love Doll... ewwwwww unless that's your thing (not you specifically)
Seems many of the folks on TAG were not even born yet when I first ventured here... which is OK.. I like the place I am in this life... just not soo fond of some of the surroundings... or maybe better put.. the twits and wankers
Thanks for jogging those memories...
I'm sure if there was a post started "First Time In Japan" and people listed their experience you would see a big difference from experienced travelers and the newbies
Would be some fascinating reading for sure.
