Safe to sleep in the parks in Tokyo?

You should really read the posts here before asking questions that have been answered million times.:D:p

FS sounds included. With new SB. While TJB will be happily laying on the sofa, watching TV :)
Hey , still cheaper than an Internet cafe and safer than the park

So Mr. Fumiya says: "He currently works 8 hours a day 6 days a week as a security guard and makes abut 230,000 yen (US $2,900) a month. He says he needs about one million yen ($13,000) to pay for security deposits, realtor fees, and furniture for an apartment in Tokyo because a realtor usually asks for a lot of money in advance for people without a financial guarantor."

I realize that he probably has trouble saving much money to rent out his own apartment in the future...but at one million yen ($13,000 US)...is only looking at renting out high-scale apartments or what? Are even the cheap, shithole/studio apartments this much total when you first rent them out? I thought that I would only need like 2 or 3 grand tops to rent out various cheap apartments in Tokyo?

I assume when Mr. Fumiya says that he doesn't have a financial guarantor, he literally has nobody in his family or friends with jobs willing to act as his guarantor? Wow, that is a terrible situation. I at least have a couple people that would act as my guarantor if shit really hit the fan.

Yes, it looks like I would have a lot of company, but I must say that Mr. Tadayuki Sakai seems like a laid-back guy that would be interesting to talk with haha.

Kind of normal would be one month's rent for key money, one for deposit, one for realtor and the first month's rent in advance. So basically bit over 4 months rent (realtor fee gets VAT added) and he mentioned furniture too.

With really cheap place and no guarantor you would probably need to pay more than 4 months, but the rent would be smaller too. Which makes me think a round million is a bit over estimated even with some cool furniture.

15,000yen for one week is pretty expensive x4 and that is way above the 30,000yen a month that oLUXo mentioned about. I know that each internet cafe has different prices and deals.

@oLUXo Do you happen to know which internet cafes only charge 30,000yen a month? I assume that these long-term residents pay day by day or weekly and not monthly.

It is funny because there is a documentary about Japanese people living in internet cafes and I don't remember them even asking if these places allow you to pay monthly...if I made a documentary about this topic, I would have asked more questions to get answers that would help people attain the knowledge to help them find a situation like this. The documentary goes out of its way to make this living situation miserable and to be avoided at all costs...which I don't blame them for doing, but at the same time, it doesn't help people that actually need to live in a place like that haha.

I'm doing online work with my brother (I won't say what) but there is a good chance my monthly salary will increase within a few months, which would help me out a lot.

Yes, as long as you go in and then leave at the specific times, it will come out to that amount. If you can carry everything in a backpack or small suitcase and use coin laundry, you can really stretch your yen. Again, I wouldn't recommend living in an internet cafe and I couldn't do it long term as I'd probably go crazy. You can also just call the internet cafe and ask them anonymously. Just make sure you ask one that has a shower.

My understanding is that it is 2, 2, 1 for reikin, deposit and agency fee in Tokyo. Has that changed?

There are quite a few backpacker hostels in a Tokyo now that only charge ¥2,000 per night - so this would avoid having to sleep in the park or having to put down a large amount of cash to rent somewhere.

Yeah, pretty much. That used to be the norm but now it's pretty rare to see anymore. Standard seems to be more like 1+1+1 but there are many places that don't require key money or even deposit at all.

Of course if you don't have a guarantor or a big name employer then your negotiation options are fewer and you might end up with the 2+2+1 and additional payment for a guarantor company.

Yes, I have stayed at a lot of places like this. One things that sucks is that most of them (if not all) don't accept long-term stays, so I would be hopping from one hostel to another every couple days, sometimes maybe a week tops. Also, I have a lot of heavy luggage with my belongings.

I still don't understand why the Japanese man living at the internet cafe said it would cost him one million yen ($13,000 US) total when first renting out an apartment in Tokyo???

This seems way way too expensive. I thought to rent out a cheap apartment for one in Tokyo would only cost a 2 or 3 grand US total...

TJB, sleeping in the park is a stupid idea and you know it. You need to save a couple of hundred grand before you come to Tokyo. You need at least that much of a cushion before whatever sad-sack bottom of the barrel English school you end up at pays you your first pathetic paycheck. For the life of me, I really can't understand why you can't save a small amount of money. You are in Shizuoka. You are white. You speak native American English. What the fuck is the problem? Have a nice day.

Well, I have more job interviews lined up, so I will see how these go. You have a nice day too.

I think you are way too harsh and borderline insulting, but this is coming from an evil gay socialist soy boy so yeah, maybe it was acceptable by tougher people’s standards with strong Christian values, I suppose :D

If you have job interviews, you should try to organize them to be on the same day. You should take the train up for a day or two and then go home and wait for offers or rejections in the comfort of your home. Wear a suit. Wear a clean shirt. Brush your teeth, and for God’s sake, try very hard not to say anything stupid or weird. Stupid and weird is great on TAG, but it will cause you problems in real life. I do hope you get a job and get whatever it is that you want. I hate to sound like an an asshole. Well, not really.

A 50K a month sharehouse would be significantly cheaper.

Remember that you called yourself all those things in your own post. I haven't said anything rude or insulting to you for a long time and I'm willing to put the past behind us and get along...I doubt that you would want to do that though.

I do, seriously. And my offer still holds by the way! :)

Well, you are the asshole pig step uncle I never had and I know deep down, you care about me and my fucked up ways.

I just offered to squash any arbitrary beef I had with Frenchy and he just deletes his comment haha. I see that Mike H still has a burning hatred for me. Hey Mike, can we finally put the past behind us?

Anyway, at least you and I can get along a lot of the time step uncle Buta.

What? I didn’t delete anything!
And in my book, and my plate, any beef is good beef !:)

He didn’t delete anything... and he was telling Buta off a little for being overly harsh with you to boot.

Slow your roll a little. :)

Nope, he wasn't trying to be friendly to me. He was being sarcastic and refused to agree to put our history behind him. Yes Buta is harsh, but he is still friendly and helpful quite often.

Thanks, an other expression I didn’t know. You’re a great teacher Sud
(Please add some Canadian slang sometimes, would love to learn that too!)
