Daily WHO Reports for the Coronavirus Outbreak (Link)

Looks like they will make the rainbow bridge light up in red from 11pm today. But it won’t have any affect in plans of reopening things. Just another statement that you should avoid the 3C’s as much as possible.

Why do they waste money on stupid ideas like this, and the fireworks display? Must be better ways of fighting the virus than a red bridge.

It seems not likely for now. A recent report by the gov's expert panel concluded that the peak of infection (backward projected from the illness onset data) was at the end of March, well before the SoE. Many are skeptical now if a "lockdown" is effective.

It was certainly effective in modifying peoples behaviour. Which meant when it was lifted, many people read that to mean it is "safe". Not being a mask wearer normally, I was conscious that I was the odd one out, and of people giving me the evil eye for not wearing a mask. Now I have masks and wear them, I notice many people - young and old - not wearing them since the SE was lifted. I have even seen reports that some teachers are not wearing them in class this week.

I think the pre-conditions for lifting the lockdown, have already been blown away this week. 34 confirmed cases yesterday. How many by the end of Friday?

I don’t really think it’s a stupid idea. Regarding the fireworks, they usually prepare about a year for the annual hanami anyways. So they use those fireworks to show their support for healthcare workers and to cheer people up.
I prefer it that way honestly. So many people have been disrespectful to the countries healthcare workers and are still facing a lot of harassment.
Something that small which many people may view as a waste of money and time can make someone’s day and fight harder knowing they are not alone.

Now I haven't seen or heard this but then again, I'm not hanging out at Hospital lobbies. Only people I could mentally imagine giving negative feedback to would be Wells Fargo employees. Nothing makes the average thinking human being feel better than an honest thank you imho.

I myself don’t hang out in hospital lobbies either ;)
But it’s been covered by the news and on twitter quite often regarding harassment of frontline workers. People throwing stones at frontline workers houses.... it’s bizarre. Everywhere else they are treated with respect and here it’s the complete opposite.

Yikes! Well, I'm not a huge news follower/believer and twitter is just looking for fun (unsuccessful btw) or trolling Trump (rather successful). In this day and age I'm wondering if we the common folk with ever know the real truth

Some Tokyo bureaucrat was quoted as saying many of the 34 cases yesterday were guys who went to "restaurants or bars where there are companions". Does anyone else think this might be code for P2P?

The real truth is when you hear it from your healthcare workers who are neighbors and you see the look of distraught on their faces. There was a article up on one of the English news sites about the situation in Japan.
Nobody with a brain follows news on Twitter... want to see some sexy pics, sure...

One of the Japanese texts called out Shinjuku specifically, but didn't name a specific venue or area of Shinjuku.

Say what you want about Americans, but at least here we're treating our front line workers, particularly the nurses and medical staff, like fucking heroes. Most cities have adopted unofficial policies where every Friday evening at 7pm, the entire population goes out on roofs and balconies and starts hollering and howling and banging pots and pans and blowing air-horns and all the cars and trucks on the road start blaring their horns as a sign of thanks for all the folks on the front lines. Even in my current city, which is comparatively smaller than most stateside, you can't even watch your TV while this racket is happening so I just go out on my balcony with a beer and enjoy the show. And there's talk coming out of Washington that the Trump admin is working on a plan to offer all of these healthcare workers the same benefits and entitlements--even if just symbolically--as actual military combat veterans.

Makes sense to me, because given the choice between deploying to Iraq for six months where I'd sit on my ass at base camp and write feel-good combat stories while getting paid very well or spend even one shift in any NYC hospital coronavirus ward, I'd be on the first C-130 to Baghdad. You see stories about the emotional trauma that's being inflicted on east coast nurses, some of whom are actually committing suicide, and that shit takes PTSD to a whole new level.

In other alarming news, lawmakers in my current city--which has had either one or zero new cases each day for the past week and single-digits max daily for the month prior to that--are apparently working with the Japanese government on a reciprocal lifting of existing travel bans and re-welcoming Japanese tourists (and vice versa). Given what I'm reading here, I sincerely fucking hope not. Because if hordes of Japanese tourists start flooding our state again and the virus numbers inevitably and immediately spike, a lot of those tourists will likely be treated to a very unpleasant introduction to good old fashioned American Hate Crime. I can already see weepy and bewildered NHK commentators sobbing and wailing about it on the evening news.

Medieval peasants...... -.-‘’’’’

There are reports from Mexico, and India about mobs chasing healthcare workers..

Anyone who has healthcare workers in their family or as their close friends know the personal sacrifices they make amid the increased risks they face. I cannot fathom ostracizing them on top the crippling stress they endure these days.

I am sure doctors and nurses would appreciate the sentiment, the "thankyou's" and some empathy.... but what they need is money for basic ppe and medical equipment. ( Never mind funding additional doctors and nurses, icu beds, hospitals focused on infectious diseases). They are overworked and underpaid, and working in an unsafe work environment under physical and mental stress.

I am fairly cynical of the "thankyou" efforts that politicians rally behind. They are a smokescreen for the basic problem that governments have not invested properly in healthcare.

One thirds of the infections reported last week were linked to pubs and bars.

Hostess club - 3C
P4P - 1C only

So probably hostess clubs and not p4p.

I wonder if hostesses and customers are required to wear masks? Strippers in US are required to wear Rhinestone masks in some clubs

Can Japanese citizens freely go back & forth to the US right now on leisure trips?

Professionals and clients should wear masks, and also not smoke in tiny places and not have sex without condoms, but they do. It seems to me a very low statistic for the large amount of clubs in Tokyo. Perhaps the girls are under pressure from the club manager to pass the disease at home without testing. And customers may be hiding it to protect their reputation.

I think it largely depends on the state you're in. Unless the Japanese government is limiting where citizens can fly to, they're probably able to fly into most major American cities. However, that doesn't mean there aren't draconian restrictions once they arrive and Japanese being obedient and overly-cautious by nature they're probably smart enough to stay away.

My current state has very, very strict rules and that's why we're enjoying almost zero new cases per day. Returning residents considered non-essential are required to self-quarantine at home for 14 days, which most are happy to do since nothing is open, anyway, and they can stay home from work on paid leave. All "visitors" (i.e., tourists) are warned NOT to come here, and if they do they are required to sign a contract promising to self-quarantine in their hotel rooms or places of residence for 14 days. Of course, none of them actually plan to abide by this so vigilant hotel staff and volunteer groups monitoring social media are alerting police and violators are arrested, charged by the AG's office, confined in solitary and then shipped home ASAP. Since tourists stick out like sore thumbs to begin with, cops are interrogating anyone who looks like a tourist for ID and proof of residency or quarantine fulfillment and if not, they're arrested, charged and sent home. Anyone who arrives and can't show proof or either residence or accommodation (homeless) are arrested, charged, kept in isolation and then sent home. I'm in favor of shutting down all non-resident entry as are most folks around here but we have a particularly dickless governor and mayor.

I hate to say it but other than the gym being closed, I'm really enjoying this lockdown. Traffic is non-existent, almost zero tourists around acting like idiot fucking tourists, I'm saving a shit-ton of cash just staying at home drinking on my balcony or rooftop. I'm hoping they'll stop all tourist travel and re-open for residents and it's going to be fucking awesome.

You could replace “politicians and governments” with “hospital management” and that statement would also be true.:facepalm:

You forgot the part about tourists crying about unfair treatment on SNS after they get called out on it.

Does your governor by chance always look like he smokes weed before his press conferences??? ;):D

I generally split my year between three different states but it appears we may both be residing in the same place right now. And for what it's worth, I was involved in the campaign effort to deny Kermit a second term.

Just had to ask about this from my neighbour who is a doctor in a big public hospital. He said he hasn't seen or heard that happening to anyone where he works.

But also if you google "healthcare worker abuse covid" you will get tons of articles describing it happening all around the world basically in every country.

Fortunately for me, I'm currently in a state that lacks the key demographics generally required for that sort of behavior and people are far more community-minded than elsewhere in the U.S. I also live at the top of a high-rise condo so logistically it'd be quite difficult to loot my place. That said, the ever-increasing number of transplants coming into this state and city is always cause for alarm so me and a buddy neighbor, a retired Marine Corps GYSGT with even more stockpiled firepower than I have, have a very effective plan if riots or looting ever happen: disable the elevator power supply and take positions guarding the two stairways. Believe me, all the rocks, bricks, clubs and vegan soy lattes at Starbucks aren't going to coax one of those dickless antifa pussies into trying to ascend the stairways once a hail of 7.62 and 5.56 rounds starts raining down all around him.
