Hi everyone,

I am interesting in getting some reading and watching advise...
Most of my favorite books and movies have elements about sex work in them. This has always been this way, long before i joined the industry. Sadly, all of them also have a quite negative vibe to them. For example, my 3 favorite movies all have a prostitute as an important character, but in all 3 the movies she dies. Same with my favorite book, the prostitutes die. In some other fascinating stories they don't always die but they usually don't like the work and in the end they always quit.

The work never seemed unappealing to me, in fact, the biggest con about the industry is how society constantly shames it.

My question: do you guys have any books or movies to recomment that put sex work in a positive light? Women honestly enjoying it.
If possible, something without unknowing or jealous partners but with full support of everyone.

Or is the only reason that prostitution makes for a good story that its so wild and dramatic and underworld?

A lot of escorts and SBs on Instagram have mentioned loving the "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" TV series. I don't know if you've seen it already, but I got intrigued and watched the very first episode. Don't know why I didn't bother continuing it, because it seemed pretty good.

I have no idea if violence/death/negativity is promoted in that show, but based on the number of working girls that have enjoyed it.. I'd assume it shines positivity on the topic of sexwork.

There's also Deadpool.. which, if I remember correctly, you've already seen.

Apologies for not being of much help. You're right, though. There really is a limited amount of pro-sexwork movies and books out there.

I find Charlotte Shane AMAZING. I don't know if "positive" is exactly the right word for this but real, unvarnished, unapologetic, fierce, independent, intelligent, paradigm-breaking and extremely well written all apply. Seriously if you aren't blown away by this book, I'll be shocked. Here's a link to some of her powerful writing:

And here's the video about the book on her Kickstarter page that funded it.

Read it and then I'll book a date with you to discuss it. ;)

The celebrated (Nobel Prize in literature among other things) American author John Steinbeck is known for the very positive depiction of prostitutes in some of his novels. I think CANNERY ROW is one of the more famous examples. I think I was in high school when I last read one of his books, so I definitely don't remember any details clearly.

Some of his novels were made into movies I believe, but I don't know if the movie versions reflected his views of prostitution.

Paulo coelho's 11minutes
The main character in the book is an escort. I've read that a long long time ago. I was pretty young then. After that I became Paulo Coelho fan. Read some more of his books like the alchemist, pilgrimage etc.

Adultery is great too. (I mean , the book with that title)

I have just bought that book!
I've also read it long ago and was impressed.

But sadly the back cover says some very negative stuff about her choosing a dark path and being able to find the light again when she finds true love and quits pure physical lust.. still a good book though.

Looks good, did you order it from her website to ship to Japan?

This is what i mean. "Dehumanising" ... "dark path", not really positive words. Although in the book, her view on sex work is very healthy and undramatic. She doesn't actually get into it to survive but more because she is bored of her job as a dancer and the benefits are much better. But the books is still about her moving over it to get to something spiritually higher. I think sex work doesn't naturally stand in the way of experiencing healthy love.

No, but Japan is a shipping option on her order form. Are you interested? Did you read that article I linked by her? TBH when I first started lurking TAG and saw your posts and profile, I thought of this book... strong, fiercely independent, high class escort who is in the business by choice. I was thinking if I met you some day I would mention this book to you. She can be controversial; you may not agree with all her views but I suspect you may identify a bit with her and I'm curious to hear someday what you think.
