The Next US President is....

In light of what happened today, I'm officially changing my prediction.

Most here probably hadn't heard, and rightfully so, but U.S. Representative Liz Cheney (Republican-WY, daughter of Dick Cheney) was defeated today in her primary election battle by a Trump-backed, anti-vaxx nut job. That's no surprise, given that we're talking about WYOMING (and I'm so very glad they mean jack shit in the electoral college). Cheney was one of the very few Republicans in Congress who voted to impeach Trump after the Capitol riots, sits on the January 6th commission (aimed at prosecuting Trump) and has vowed to do everything in her power to ensure he's never elected president again.

My prediction: Liz Cheney will run for president in 2024, and I think she has a very, very good chance of winning for the following reasons:

1) Obviously, she comes from one of the most powerful political dynasties in history and has the full backing of the establishment GOP network, which has gone into hiding during the age of Trump but is eagerly awaiting a return to power and desperately wants Trump gone.

2) She is being hailed--by both Republicans AND Democrats--as one of the few brave members of the GOP willing to risk her neck and, ultimately, lose her seat to wage war against Trump and prevent him from a return to power. Democrats love her. And her classic GOP creds--support for military funding, cutting federal taxes and regulations, supporting the private sector and upholding Constitutional Rights--are all very, very solid. After all, this is Dick Cheney's daughter.

3) She is one of the few "conservative" Republicans who is also firmly pro-LGBT, coming out in full support of her lesbian sister.

Liz Cheney has simultaneously positioned herself as both a champion of the establishment GOP of old days and a heroine of Trump-haters from all across the political spectrum, all despite her family name--after all, most snowflake pussy kids now weren't even alive or at least toilet-trained when her dad was VP. That's quite a feat. She has closer personal relationships with Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate (they're actually friends) than most high-profile Democrats, including Kamala Harris, who is widely-reviled by her former Democrat colleagues in the Senate. The hardcore "conservatives" in Congress, or those who identify with so-called FREEDOM (shitkicker) CAUCUS in the House may hate her, but most of Americans hate them, so that's not going to be an issue.

If Cheney decides to run for president in 2024, the establishment GOP will rally around her like nothing we've seen in decades, and if it's a TRUMP vs CHENEY battle in the August 2024 primary, I can almost guarantee you will see a record number of registered Democrats pulling Republican ballots just to vote against Trump and keep him out of the general elections. After all, why bother wasting your vote in the Dem primary when it's an incumbent lock? And then when it's a CHENEY vs HARRIS contest in November 2024 (There is no way Joe Biden will be running again), considering Kamala Harris' approval ratings are lower than any VP in recorded history and the WH doesn't even want her out in public anymore (check the news, she'll be in Cali and Hawaii for three weeks and not a single public appearance), I can very seriously see a situation where even the DNC basically throws in the towel (secretly) and just lets Cheney waltz into the WH.

And just like that, the first woman elected POTUS will be a Republican. Suck on that one.

And that is the official Keihan Prediction for 2024.
You finally said something that makes sense. I read all those reports earlier today so it's nothing new but I do agree.

In all seriousness, though...ambitious POTUS candidates need a "moment" that makes them. A perfect example was Barack Hussein Obama, a political nobody and junior Senator nobody had ever heard of, being allowed to speak at the Democratic Convention. The next day he was being hailed as the next JFK. At the same moment Liz Cheney lost her House seat today, she became a political superstar. Assuming she doesn't commit any major fuck-ups and can handle the pressure to continue performing, she's very likely going to be the 2024 GOP nominee the party was starving for. This is going to get interesting.

what if registered Dems vote at the Republican primaries…. For Trump instead? Because that’s whom they think they can beat

(and btw whats this deal about being able to participate in the primaries of the party you OPPOSE?!
Another American oddity I never understood)

Of course that's a possibility. I've assisted in orchestrating campaigns for the GOP to have Republican voters pull Dem ballots to elect the weakest link, multiple times, but to be honest those efforts never pan out. Particularly with Trump, who's about as caustic as any candidate in history, even ambitious Dem voters would probably want to throw themselves off an overpass before actually ticking the TRUMP box on the ballot. Combine that with the fact that Kamala Harris will most likely be the Dem nominee, and the majority of registered Dem voters just don't like her. I'm going to say they'd rather be part of history by going rogue and voting for a palatable female Republican in order to end the era of Trump, rather than cast a lukewarm vote for a loser (Harris) you don't even like and expect to lose in the general election.

The golden rule with electoral politics in America (and probably everywhere with democratic governments) is that voters want to vote for the individual they think is going to win, because when that person wins, they feel connected to the victory and the validation is very pleasurable. You're part of the in-crowd, the winners, the cool kids. If you have to choose between the reprehensible, cackling, useless Kamala Harris and the epic anti-Trump martyr who sacrificed her political career to stop Emperor Orange and became a national figure for having the balls to defy her hijacked party...well, at that point I don't think political affiliation matters, anymore.

More than that, America has been dying to see a female POTUS. American can't stand Kamala Harris. Liz Cheney is going to come along at exactly the right time from exactly the right place and with the right message. It's another Obama moment. I'm looking forward to it.

It doesn't make much sense, but by and large it's regulated by individual state governments and constitutions. Here, in the primary August election, you must choose a party you belong to and tick the appropriate box on your ballot....so Dem or GOP. Once you've ticked the box, you're only allowed to vote for candidates from that corresponding party, otherwise your ballot is considered invalid. However, in the general election in November, you're free to vote across party lines for whomever you find most appealing. And that's basically why you see such low turnout for primary elections.

It's fucking ridiculous but believe me...somehow, somehow, it all works out in the end. Probably not for the good of the citizenry but it does work out.

but it does work out.

yeah well…. I love America [cue the first words in the Godfather] … but I honestly, humbly, reluctantly think your electoral system SUCKS. Big time.

(but I love America because it doesn’t really matter that your system sucks )

PpFffTtt. I don't vote as it's already been decided

As a formerly registered Democrat (now independent because moving abroad helped me realize everyone's nuts), I completely agree with this prediction.

My blue-blooded liberal compatriots back in the States all say great things about Cheney, and her being Republican causes some bickering, but the discussion seems to be always choosing the best of evils these days.
Looking forward to our first female president.

Meanwhile, if Reuters is to be believed, for the Senate election in Vermont (about 300,000 voters apparently) only 18% of the votes have been counted , at close to midnight.
Maybe there are only 3 guys in Vermont counting votes?

Trump/Putin connection most likely

That number is a bit old, they've made more progress I think now.

My Facebook feed is absolutely insane right now with diatribe after diatribe about "the enemy."
Seriously, fuck all of these people.
Delete Facebook, seriously. Or just use the messenger function if you have family that don't know any better.
I never open FB itself, just the messenger app. I'm really pushing the remaining holdouts to drop it and move to something else.

Same here. I may troll every now and then though.

I feel same with Twitter
My contacts on FB are actually decent people without much political nonsense. But Twitter … what a trainwreck

Interesting…. My Twitter continues to show just a lot of boobies 🤔 Not a peep of US political shitshow. I guess you reap what you sow in terms of what and who you follow.. 😂😂😂😂

Well, in case anyone is bothering to watch, the whole "Red Wave" didn't really pan out. The GOP, as predicted, is going to take over the House and Nancy Pelosi is getting the boot. The Senate, well...that may not be determined for some time now if the GA race leads to a run-off in December. The bright side, as I see it, is that Joe Biden is now effectively a lame duck president. No more of his "agenda," if he even knows what that is anymore, is going to be moving forward. I also wouldn't be surprised if the far-right nuts and holdover Trump crazies in the House draw up articles of impeachment against him or, even more likely, direct the DOJ to investigate Hunter.

The not-so-bright side of this is that FL governor Ron Desantis won an astounding victory over turncoat Charlie Crist (a gay-bashing closet homosexual, according to many), which means Desantis is now poised as a front-runner for the GOP 2024 nomination. And I can't fucking stand him.

And then there's that thing about Donald Trump announcing his 2024 candidacy next week.

I'm staying up for another thirty minutes to see the second printout for our local races and then I'm chugging my last vodka-soda and going to bed. Being out of politics is so very pleasant.

Looks like I’m going to lose my favorite and kinda-hot MAGA nutcase, Loren Boebert from Colorado. Marjorie will feel alone without her. Sad .

I don't know about that. Boebert looks like she suffers from a constant yeast infection that you'd be able to smell from across the room. Stupid twat actually tried to enter the Capitol armed with a pistol and then got into a fight with Capitol Police for not allowing her through the metal detectors. I love the state of Colorado and it disgusts me that she represents it, but also keep in mind that she's basically trailer trash from Florida (SURPRISE!!) that relocated to CO and I believe she got knocked up in high school, dropped out and ended up working at McDonald's. A true American Success Story.
